“But his family has over 13 acres of farm which is given on contract farming. “The residents liked his kirtan so much that the panchayat gave land for a Gurdwara to Babaji (Dhandrianwale).”ĭhadrianwale has not been a regular visitor to his native village Dharidan in Sangrur district, although a dera is located here as well. “He has not been a regular for the past two to three years,” said Major Singh, a resident. “I remember Santji as a teenager, not more than 16 years of age, when he first came to our village for a religious programme organised by the then SAD leader Harry Mann (now with Congress),” said Gurjeet Singh, sarpanch of Shekupura village. He was called a gaddar (traitor) on social media for this. He, however, attended the bhog ceremony for those who were killed in police firing in Behbal Kalan.Įven during the protests, Dhadrianwale backed those who sought to reduce the protest hours in view of the hardships faced by commuters. But with his characteristic streak of independence, he stayed away from the “Sarbat Khalsa” called by Panthic organisations in November in the wake of the desecration incidents, nor did he take part in any panthic organisation meet after that. While the Punjab Police are maintaining that the ownership is being verified, Damdami Taksal has already owned up to it.The preacher actively protested the alleged desecration of the Guru Granth Sahib last year. A Tata Safari PB-23J-0015, that was recovered by Punjab Police, is registered in the name of Baba Harnam Singh from Chowk Mehta in Amritsar. Neither any Panthic organizations, nor the government or local administration came forward to stop him,“ Dhumma added. “There are issues of Ragmala, Dasham Granth, and Rehat Maryada but we never spoke anything objectionable even against those persons who have divergent opinions.Dhadarianwala had deliberately spoken against the Taksal. Ranjit Singh Dhadrianwale had survived an assassination bid on 18 May while he was on his way to Isewal village in Ludhiana. Damdami Taxal chief Harnam Singh Dhumma said, “Everyone knows about Dhadrianwale's offensive audio and videos against Damdami Taksal.“ He insisted that there were several controversial issues with preachers but the Taksal had never clashed with anyone over them. “For the past four years, he (Dhadrianwala) had been making highly objectionable statements during his foreign tours against `Dastar' (turban or leadership) of Damdami Taksal which was bound to fuel resentment among Sikhs and Sangat and it came to fore in the form of a clash for which Dhadarinawale himself is responsible,“ he alleged. So far eight people have been arrested in the case, of which five are Taksal supporters. While the preacher escaped unhurt, Dhakki was killed. The preacher was travelling by Isewal village in Ludhiana on May 17 when some 25 men in four cars chased his cavalcade, waylaid it and opened fire on the car in which he was travelling. Dhadrianwale has asked the police to arrest the mastermind behind the attack and threatened to spark a major protest if this is not done. “We are of view that it is our duty to support them,“ he said. He even tacitly supported the attack and said he himself and the Taksal honoured the feelings of those Sikhs who had shown their `sentiments' for the Taksal. The Taksal chief advised Dhadrianwale to stop his “adverse propaganda“ which could have far reaching consequences. “For long he had been using highly offensive language against Damdami Taksal which has hurt the sentiments of Singhs of Taksal,“ Dhumma said, but denied having any information about the attack on the preacher. Dhumma issued an official release in which he called the attack on Dhadrianwale a natural response to his alleged `hate propaganda' against the Taksal. Bhai Uday Singh killed Rustam Khan, the commander of the Moghul army thus halting the onslaught. Dhumma on Monday chose not to condemn the deadly attack on Dhadrianwale a week earlier, but expressed grief at the death of the preacher's aide Bhupinder Singh Dhakki.
